8th International Fiber Art Biennale „FROM LAUSANNE TO BEIJING“ Nantong 2014

FROM LAUSANNE TO BEIJING
The spirit of the 8th International Fiber Art Biennale „FROM LAUSANNE TO BEIJING“ Nantong 2014
Inclusiveness Integration
Nantong, a wonder land, boasts a time-honored history of textile.
Fiber, a spirit from the art world, weaved into this city.
The two met, connected and integrated ever since.
In century-old textile factories in Nantong, contemporary fiber art has been interwoven into space and history, forming a perfect artistic work together with the site. Here, we have successfully held the seventh „From Lausanne to Beijing“ International Fiber Art Biennal Exhibition. Today, we once again extend our welcoming armst o embrace bot hold and new friends to bring their excellent works and attend this great event.
Under the context oft the information age featuring cultural diversity, it is worth considering that where fiber art is heading. This art form is now standing at various crossroads like: material and concept, material and spiritual values, science and art, eastern and western elements as well as traditional legacy and modern innovation, etc. How would it further develop itself?
By inheriting and advancing our last theme „Return and Transcendence“, the theme this year, „Inclusiveness and Integration“ provides wider space and more possibilities. Inclusiveness is a prerequisite for success since an inclusive attitude will boost inspiration and win-win progress in exchanges: Integration facilitates greatness, as it is always through integration that mutual learning and improving can be attained, thus producing a greater whole. For fiber art, there is no exception. Hence, in a spirit of « Inclusiveness Integration », let’s build together a spiritual homeland for the boundless art, for beauty and for the future.
Nantong, the cradle of China’s first textile factory and textile school, is the host city of the Biennal which is the only occasion of its kind in China and the world’s largest one. Its historical bond with textile makes the city an ideal site for the event. Today, over 200 artists from 41 countries and regions will demonstrate theit talented works here. And this event will be regarded as a cultural and historical witness to fiber art, an art bridging the past and the future.
In the past 14 years, we have joined hands in exploration and research of fiber art. Now we are on this path heading forward. Let’s keep our sincere love for this art, as well as our own ideals in heart, and wove together a splendid world of fiber art.
