Chrysopoeia Study no.2

2020 | 30 cm x 30 cm | linen, copper

Chrysopoeia, title of this series, was borrowed from a term of alchemy which means transmutation into gold or the completion of the great work (Magnus Opus), symbolically indicating the successful transformation of all impurities into gold.

Chemical phenomena such as the oxidation of certain metals underline the inherent impermanence of life observed as a continuous change in form and color.

Jute, gaze and linen are undergoing an unexpected transmutation due to a sophisticated process that alters the characteristics of the materials, in this case transmuting linen into copper.

Concept of this series is the inherent eternal impermanence of life observed as a continuous change of form and content thus setting in motion an individual, cultural or —as we are experiencing these days — planetary transformation.
