Chrysopeoia / Last man standing

The title of my latest series ‘Chrysopoeia’ is borrowed from alchemy and it indicates the successful transformation of all impurities into gold.

Chrysopoeia / ‘Last man standing’ recalls the dialectic between Contrasting or Accepting the changes and transformations that are part of our human journey.

In particular ‘last man standing’ talks about Resistance to change, while metamorphosis is already visible to everyone.

‘last man standing’ exhausts his strength in a tug-of-war with fate and fails to see the opportunity that is presented to him: trusting in what is to come resides his liberation from the limited idea of being only what he believes he can be.

After a long series of experimentations with techniques, traditionally used to metallize objects with copper, silver or gold, I applied a complex electrolytic process onto fabric making the different components of the materials interact. The result is a metamorphosis of the fabric from malleable to solid, from dull to shiny, while its core texture remains intact. This reveals one of the most profound meanings of the artwork :

matter, despite its immersion in a constant cycle of transformations, always conserves life’s most intimate imprint of existence – an eternal remake of the primordial blueprint.
